About Me.

I am Yuzhe Zhou (周宇哲), and I am a PhD candidate in Computer and Information Technology at Purdue University, advised by Dr. Tianyi Li. My research interests span Human–Computer Interaction, Human–AI Interaction, and AI in Education.

I design and evaluate these systems in real classroom settings. I lead the design of ExPeerience, an AI-assisted learnersourcing platform where students co-create contextualized learning materials for programming education. This work builds on my earlier learnersourcing workflow, which engaged students across multiple course offerings in creating, reviewing, and reusing contextualized programming problems. Grounded in user-centered design and mixed-methods research, my work examines how human–AI collaboration and student-generated materials shape learning, confidence, engagement, and trust.

AI Grading & Feedback

Assignment

Co-Developer · PIs: Dr. Tianyi Li, Dr. Jian Zhao (University of Waterloo)

Summary

A Purdue × Waterloo collaboration providing personalized, standardized, and scalable feedback for coding assignments in large courses. Features include a smart comment bank and error-detection capabilities — type-mismatch checks and AI-generated-code detection — keeping instructors in control of AI-assisted grading while improving consistency, timeliness, and fairness.

Context Familiarity

Assignment

Researcher · PIs: Dr. Tianyi Li, Dr. Paul J. Thomas

Summary

A mixed-methods quasi-experimental study in an introductory database course, investigating the gap between instructor-defined and student-perceived context familiarity and its impact on SQL performance and confidence. Both familiar and unfamiliar contexts improved learning — but familiar contexts significantly boosted student confidence, highlighting the role of perceived familiarity in motivation and engagement.
